Teagasc National Dairy Conference 2021

The Teagasc National Dairy Conference 2021, ‘Meeting Challenges with Technology’, will take place at two locations next week. On Tuesday, 23rd November the conference is at the Rochestown Park Hotel, in Cork and the following day, Wednesday, 24th November, the location is the Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone.

Head of Dairy Knowledge Transfer in Teagasc, Dr Joe Patton said: “The year, 2021, has been a mixed one for dairy farmers on the whole. Broadly, it has been positive in relation to both weather conditions and milk price, however there have been plenty of stressors to contend with such as ongoing concerns around Covid-19, the increased focus on dairy farming’s position in the climate debate, and of course a sharp rise in input prices. Teagasc are keenly aware of the potential implications of these factors for farm practices and profitability. We hope that the conference will offer an opportunity for constructive discussion of the issues.”

The Keynote Address will be delivered by the new Teagasc Director Professor Frank O’Mara, who will address the topic ‘Meeting climate obligations- a pathway for the dairy industry’.

A panel discussion in the morning on the’Future Direction of Ireland’s Dairy Breeding Programme’will be moderated by Emma Louise Coffey from the Teagasc Dairy Edge Podcast. The second session on ‘Practical advice for improved farm efficiency’ will be chaired and moderated by James Dunne, Teagasc Dairy Specialist. The afternoon session on ‘Grazing Management and Clover Establishment’will be moderated by Stuart Childs from the Teagasc ‘Let’s Talk Dairy’ webinar series.
