Profile

Dr Nuala Ní Fhlatharta is Head of the Forestry Development Department at Teagasc where she leads a team of forestry advisers, specialists and researchers.

The forestry advisory service is focussed on the needs of the farm forestry sector including forest establishment, management, harvesting and providing development support to forest owners and forest owner groups.

The main research areas include site classification, forest genetics and tree improvement, and conifer and broadleaf management and silviculture.

Nuala represents Teagasc at national and international level on forestry-related issues. Recent activities focus on increasing awareness of forestry and forestry promotion at national level, networking with forestry extension organisations at European level (FOREXT) and at international level (IUFRO- International Union of Forest Research Organisations). She is the Irish International Council Representative for IUFRO and is a Deputy Co-Ordinator of the IUFRO Extension and Knowledge Exchange Working Party. She has recently collaborated on several EU Horizon 2020 proposals and has been involved in anEU Focus Group on Wood Biomass Mobilisationand欧盟新价值链研讨会Multifunctional Forests.

Nuala holds a primary degree in Forestry, a Masters in Rural Development and a PhD in Forestry.
